The East African countries now have an additional, fast Internet connection. The East Africa Submarine Cable system (EASSy) provides a total bandwidth of 3.84 TBit/s and has recently been launched. Originally, only 640 Gbit/s have been planned. Overall, the operators invested 235 million U.S. dollars. The German KfW Development Bank contributed 13.2 million U.S. dollars to this project. African members hold a clear majority of 92 percent in the consortium.
